What’ in store in January

whats in store jan14Happy New Year! We have had a busy start to 2014 and lots of new work for you on display. The days are getting marginally longer and we are looking forward to spring here in the gallery.

We will be closing for a day or two during the week in the beginning of February. The walls need a bit of a spring lift. If you are making a special trip, please ring ahead to check.

We have had some great new work by Jenny Beavan for the New Year. This series of wonderfully energetic ceramic wallpanels are made from china clay. They are inspired by water, particularly the Tides. Rather unusually for Jenny we also have a panel on a red glass background on display.

The newest artist to exhibit at 45 Southside is Emma West. Emma’s porcelain wall panels start as emboidery, which is impressed onto the clay and details are picked up with colouring and glazes.

whats in store jan 14 3We have had a number of Zoe Coles’ amazingly life-like and lively animal sculptures in the past. This little fox is fast making friends in the gallery. Zoe’s sculptures are modelled in papiermache and then coated with resin and metal to appear like copper, silver or iron.

Beverley Bailey has been busy embroidering books for us as well.

We could not bear to pack these lovely glass baubles by Emmy-Gai Palmer away after Christmas. We have a really cheerful selection of spring colours available. Hang them all year round in a window and watch the light change.

Corinna Butler has also some new glass work on display. Her work is mounted and framed. She draws her inspiration from her scuba-diving hobby and is displayed together with Richard Glass’ Splash sculptures.
